Zero Gravity Arm
21 July 2026
A case study detailing Techmine’s Zero Gravity Arm solution, designed to reduce operator fatigue and manual handling risk by enabling controlled, single-handed operation of water cannons and tools in confined and high-risk environments. Detailed outcomes are available in the supporting case study below.
Problems Identified:
- Current washdown method requires personnel to hold heavy cannons in unergonomic positions for extended periods, increasing fatigue due to back pressure and awkward posture.
- Entanglement of the hose on the access walkways.
Why It Happened:
- Access doors being positioned were the most impact can be achieved through the wash down scope.
- Restricted placement of the inspection doors due to external stiffening.
- Diversification of personal in the field.
Our Solution
- Develop a Zero Gravity Arm to hold the water cannon at a specific height.
- Adjust drop height and horizontal length to enhance overall reach capacity.
- Numerous pivot points located on the arm for ingress and egress.
- Restricts the stored energy of the water when opening the valve, causing a whipping moment.
- Segmented pinning locations to secure at the most ergonomic position for personnel to carry out task.
- Adaptable to run on a “I” beam rail for numerous access door points in larger chute locations.
Key Features
- Lightweight Zero Gravity arm for easy installation.
- Lets the technician control the water cannon with one hand while using a torch with the other.
Benefits
- 3rd party certified
- Allows the technician to stay in position longer to clear blockages, significantly reducing fatigue.
